Year’s end

October 21, 2011

Low was forty-one last night and high was fifty-one today. Had to wear a coat when I went outside, and finally had to turn on the furnace inside to warm up the house. Inside temperature of sixty-three just not warm enough for me. We should have some more warm days this fall before winter and will enjoy getting outside for raking and pruning and planting on those days. I can see why my Druid ancestors observed the last of October, six weeks past the fall equinox, as the end of the year and the start of a new year. It’s the end of the growth season and beginning of the dormant season, waiting for the new year and new growth to begin again.
